Casa Cascada is a vacation rental property in Ojochal, Costa Rica, operated independently. This policy covers information collected through the Casa Cascada website (this site) and its protected Guest Guide.

2. Information We May Collect

Depending on how you use this website, we may collect:

  • Name, email address, and phone number you provide through the inquiry form
  • Message content and desired travel dates you submit through the inquiry form
  • Number of guests, if provided
  • Technical and device information such as browser type and IP address, collected automatically by standard web hosting infrastructure
  • Guest Guide authentication and session information (see Section 5)

We do not currently collect payment information, passport numbers, or health information through this website.

3. Airbnb and Other Third-Party Bookings

Reservations are completed through third-party platforms such as Airbnb. Payment and booking information handled directly by those platforms is subject to their own privacy policies, not this one. We recommend reviewing Airbnb's privacy policy for information collected during the booking process itself.

4. How Information Is Used

Information submitted through this website may be used to:

  • Respond to inquiries about availability and booking
  • Provide guest services and arrival information
  • Operate protected Guest Guide access
  • Provide customer support
  • Maintain the security of the website and Guest Guide
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

5. Guest Guide PINs

Confirmed guests receive a temporary access PIN to unlock protected Guest Guide information (Wi-Fi, arrival directions, and similar stay-specific details). Session and authentication information is processed to verify access, maintain security, prevent misuse, and troubleshoot problems. We do not publish guest names, reservation dates, or other reservation details on the public website.

6. Cookies and Analytics

This website does not currently use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar third-party tracking or advertising services. The Guest Guide uses a single authentication cookie to keep a confirmed guest signed in during their stay; this cookie is used only for that purpose. If we begin using an analytics service in the future, this policy will be updated to disclose it before it goes live.

7. Information Sharing

We may share limited information with:

  • Our property management/hosting team, to coordinate guest services
  • Our website hosting provider, as necessary to operate the site
  • Booking platforms such as Airbnb, when a reservation is made through them
  • Legal authorities, when required by law

We do not sell personal information.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including server-side authentication for protected Guest Guide content and hashed storage of access credentials. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. Data Retention

We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for guest services, business records, applicable legal or tax requirements, and security purposes. We do not have a fixed retention period published at this time.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Costa Rica's Law No. 8968 (Protection of the Person Against the Processing of Personal Data) governs the treatment of personal data in Costa Rica. If you have questions about information we hold about you, contact us using the details in Section 14.

11. Children

This website is intended for adults arranging travel accommodations. We do not knowingly solicit personal information directly from children.

12. Third-Party Links

This website links to third-party services including Airbnb, Google Maps, Waze, WhatsApp, restaurants, tour operators, and medical providers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites.
