You Don't Have to Drive an Hour For This

Some extraordinary experiences begin right here in Ojochal.

Ojochal Waterfall

About 1/4 Mile From Casa Cascada

Distance: Approximately 1/4 mileExperience: Jungle + WaterfallTime: 1-2 hours

One of the coolest things about staying at Casa Cascada? There's a jungle waterfall approximately 1/4 mile away.

No long day trip. No driving across Costa Rica. No elaborate itinerary. You're staying in the jungle β€” and this is part of the neighborhood.

⚠ Walking directions and access details are shared with confirmed guests once the route is verified.

A quiet sandy cove at Playa Ventanas framed by palm trees and jungle-covered headlands

πŸ–οΈ Casa Cascada Pick: Must-See Beach

Playa Ventanas

Drive: Under approximately 15 minutesBest For: Beach + Sea CavesTime: Half day

One of the beaches we want every Casa Cascada guest to know about.

Playa Ventanas is famous for the dramatic caves carved through the coastal rock. β€œVentanas” means windows β€” and when conditions allow, you can experience these remarkable openings where the jungle meets the Pacific.

Palm trees. Warm Pacific water. Jungle-covered cliffs. Sea caves. And it's only a short drive from Casa Cascada.

⚠ Cave access depends on tide and surf conditions. Never enter the caves during unsafe conditions.

πŸ’¦ Casa Cascada Pick: Waterfall + Swimming

Uvita Waterfall

Drive: Approximately 20-30 minutesBest For: Morning or Afternoon AdventureTime: 2-3 hours

Uvita isn't only about the Whale Tail. A short drive inland takes you into the jungle to Uvita Waterfall, one of the area's most popular freshwater swimming experiences.

Visitors come for the waterfall, natural pools and tropical setting. Depending on the current entrance/access option, guests may also find a butterfly garden and places for food or refreshments nearby.

This makes an excellent 2-3 hour adventure or something to combine with lunch and exploring Uvita.

⚠ Conditions and water levels change β€” we don't recommend jumping or sliding from the waterfall.

Marino Ballena National Park and the Whale Tail

Best For: Beach + Nature + PhotographyTime: Half day

This is one of the landscapes that defines Costa Ballena.

At Marino Ballena National Park, land and ocean create the famous Whale Tail β€” a remarkable natural sandbar formation extending into the Pacific.

Walk the beach. Explore the coastline. Photograph the Whale Tail. And during whale season, this coastline becomes something even more remarkable.

πŸ‹ Casa Cascada Pick: Signature Wildlife Experience

Whale Watching

Experience: Ocean + WildlifeTime: Half dayReservation: Required

There's a reason this region is called Costa Ballena β€” the Whale Coast.

Seasonally, humpback whales migrate through these Pacific waters. Guests can book licensed boat excursions from the Uvita/Marino Ballena area for the opportunity to see these magnificent animals in their natural environment.

During migration seasons, this is one of the signature wildlife experiences of Costa Ballena.

πŸ›ž Casa Cascada Pick: Adventure Day

GET DIRTY.

Location: Uvita AreaExperience: 4Γ—4 / ATV / Side-by-SideTime: Approximately 4-5 hoursReservation: Required

Trade the pavement for jungle trails. Climb into the mountains. Cross streams. Ride through mud. Stop at waterfalls. Look back toward the Pacific from thousands of feet above sea level.

This isn't sightseeing through a bus window. You're going into the mountains β€” jungle trails, stream crossings, coffee plantations, small villages, elevation changes approaching 4,000 feet.

This is one of those Costa Rican experiences you'll still be talking about when you get home.

There are beautiful beaches all over Costa Rica. There are rainforests all over Costa Rica. But Manuel Antonio gives you both in the same adventure.

Walk through tropical rainforest searching for monkeys, sloths, birds and other wildlife. Follow jungle trails toward spectacular Pacific viewpoints. Then emerge from the rainforest onto some of Costa Rica's most famous beaches.

If this is your first trip to Costa Rica, put Manuel Antonio on your list. It's more developed and popular than some of the wilder adventures south of Casa Cascada, but there's a reason people come here from around the world.

⚠ Open Wednesday-Monday, 7am-4pm, closed Tuesday. Tickets are sold ONLY through the official SINAC online system β€” beware third-party sites posing as official sellers. The park has no visitor parking lot; arrive early and confirm parking before you leave Casa Cascada.

The Hardest Part Is Choosing What To Do Tomorrow.

Wake up at Casa Cascada. Drink coffee above the jungle. Listen for howler monkeys. Then decide.

Walk to a waterfall? Explore Pacific sea caves? Swim beneath another jungle waterfall? Ride a 4Γ—4 into the mountains? Look for whales? Snorkel a protected island? Explore the mangroves? Or venture into Corcovado?

And when the adventure is over, come home. Jump in the pool. Sink into the jacuzzi. Watch the jungle turn dark. Then start planning tomorrow.

This is why you don't just visit Costa Rica.

You experience it.
